Information about Honolulu Community College HVAC classes, registering in a technical degree program to develop job skills, and taking free practice tests online. Which degrees will give you the best chances of landing a job after you graduate? Some students select a major because it teaches them practical skills that are valuable in the workplace. Other students choose their major because they love the subject. The most popular college major is business, split equally between men and women. On the other hand, men make up the majority of computer science and engineering majors. For women, education, English and liberal arts dominate the list.

Graduates of online degree programs may go on to attend graduate school, and become successful professionals. Each class is recorded and stored on a server, which allows for instant playback of any class. This is extremely useful for students reviewing for exams, given the ability to replay difficult sections as many times as desired. Online education can open up the opportunity to take difficult courses that won't show up on your transcript, if you so choose. Alternatively, you can complete additional credits for a grade.

Doing business online is a great option to supplement your income while still a student. By registering a domain name, pointing the name servers to your hosting company, then building an active website via a WordPress template, you're in the game. Similar to magazine page layout, website design success is governed by two factors, visitor traffic and online sales conversions.

Online Courses - MOOCs

Honolulu Community College pagenameThe best college for a student is not necessarily the highest ranking in the Forbes' listings, but the college that offers a student the most career opportunities. Pursue your career interests, not high-paying starting salaries, and your overall job earnings will reflect the enthusiasm that you bring to your work, increasing over time as you gain business experience. If you focus your prospective degree choice on salary alone, there is the risk that you may suffer early signs of burnout, and be forced to change careers.

Technical training programs are a low-cost alternative to attending college, and you might end up earning a lot of money as a highly-skilled, technical consultant, or by starting your own small business. Massive Open Online Courses are known as MOOCs, and offer a variety of learning platforms, utilizing cloud-based software and Google apps.

An online degree may be just as marketable as a college degree earned on campus. Udemy online learning, a site which allows anyone to build (or take) online courses, is a new startup with backing from the founders of Groupon. Khan Academy now offers over 3,900 micro-lectures available via YouTube. Coursera, another online-learning software platform, has millions of enrolled students around the world. Through MIT Open Courseware online classes, educators can improve development of their curricula, making their instruction more effective.

Skilled Trades Training

Heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration mechanics and installers, often referred to as HVACR technicians, work on heating, ventilation, cooling, and refrigeration systems that control the air quality in many types of buildings. In large, multi-story buildings, these systems literally may encompass miles of lines and vents, with hundreds of control mechanisms.

Aircraft and avionics equipment mechanics and technicians repair and perform scheduled maintenance on airplanes and helicopters. They also inspect airplanes and helicopters as required by the Federal Aviation Administration. Diesel mechanics and automotive service technicians may find higher paying jobs if they specialize in one type of equipment, such as motorcycles, motorboats, or outdoor power equipment.

Train engineers and train operators ensure that freight trains and passenger trains stay on time and travel safely. Train engineers drive trains. Train operators work the brakes, signals, or switches. Conductors and yardmasters coordinate the daily activities of both freight and passenger train crews. Subway and streetcar operators transport passengers in urban and suburban areas. The vehicles they drive travel underground, on above-ground and elevated tracks, on streets, or on separate tracks.

Tractor-trailer truck drivers transport goods within and across state lines. Most tractor-trailer drivers are long-haul drivers, and operate trucks with a capacity of at least 26,001 pounds gross vehicle weight. Owner-operators have purchased 18-wheel trucks, while commercial drivers operate company owned rigs. Delivery drivers pick up, transport, and drop off packages within a small region or urban area. Most of the time, they deal with logistics, transporting merchandise from a distribution center warehouse to businesses and households.

Nursing & Medical Job Listings

Earning a CNA degree (Certified Nursing Assistant) is the first step towards becoming a fully-qualified nurse. Most CNA programs can be completed within a few months, allowing you to join the workforce quickly. The next step in a nursing career is to become a LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) or LVN ( Licensed Vocational Nurse). These are year-long programs, in which you'll work under an RN distributing meds, treating wounds, and providing basic patient care.

In order to become an RN (Registered Nurse), a bachelors degree in nursing is recommended. RN's command a greater salary, and are responsible for an enlarged scope of practice over LPNs and CNAs. Students will receive classroom instruction and clinical training in a hospital setting. A 4-year BSN program allows students to further specialize in the areas of pediatrics, geriatrics and mental health. After completing your nursing education, you must be licensed by the state in which you'll be practicing, given that state boards of nursing each have specific certification requirements.
